Day 4: How plants make food through photosynthesis

Today we focused on how plants make food through the process called photosynthesis. We learned a special formula to represent what is happening during photosynthesis. The formula is:

CO2 + 2H2O + sunlight ---> O 2 + (C H2O)n + H2 Oor...carbon dioxide + water + sunlight ---> oxygen + carbohydrate + water

This means that the leaves of plants absorb carbon dioxide from the air, water, and sunlight and uses those ingredients to produce the products of oxygen, sugars (plant food), and water. Here is a diagram to help visualize this process:

Also today in class we had groups of students do a dramatization of what is occurring during the process of photosynthesis.
Day 4 homework:
For homework, I would like you to again visit our classroom blog and make a post. In the post, I would like you to write about another process that you know of in everyday life that is similar to the process of photosynthesis. Talk about the ingredients and the products of your example. Then, as always, comment on at least one other one of your classmates' posts. This assignment is due tomorrow (Friday).
